For it being the month that most people find the most depressing, we had a pretty good month even with Little Miss being sick for the first time.
Our month included trying new foods for Little Miss, like pancakes for breakfast, grilled chicken and vegetables, and her favorite pasta. We also made a visit to the Shedd Aquarium, we had a day to paint, and we celebrated Little Miss turning 9 months old.
Not only was it a great month for Little Miss, I started my new job which I love and I even purchased a new car. I was also lucky enough to be able to have a mommy day and get my hair done.
Little Miss also started swimming lessons and she is a natural mermaid in the pool. From kicking her little feet to even putting her face in the water all by herself, I highly recommend putting your baby in swim lessons if you can.
We have a lot to look forward to for February and cannot wait to see what new adventures and exciting moments bring us next month.
If you know me personally and are friends with me on Facebook, or if you just follow my Instagram account, you know that I’d love to take pictures. Even before Little Miss was born I was always taking pictures of our furbabies, friends, anything that I felt needed to be photographed.
I literally have boxes of photographs that I’ve always said I would eventually one day put into a scrapbook. Well eventually came and those photos are still sitting in the boxes. While I was pregnant I started a pregnancy scrapbook, and I got up till the 5th month of my pregnancy. Those photos an ultrasound are still sitting in a box.
I promised myself I would not do that when it came time for Little Miss and her first scrapbook. In order to motivate me to actually make her a scrapbook, I decided to take all of her big milestones from her first year and make a Little Miss’ first year scrapbook ready for her birthday.
Any moment I get that I can make a couple of pages, I’m making those pages. While I’m so good at making sure I get her photos uploaded, I tend to drag on actually getting them printed and put into a book. The last few weeks I really kick myself into gear in order to have this book ready for her first birthday.
The last couple of weeks I have taken every opportunity with A being home and getting a few moments to myself to put everything together, including making her first book in chronological order of her year.
I’ve even gone as far as making myself a goal for this month to make at least one page a week. One page usually turns into three or four pages, which is beneficial to finally catch up on the last almost 10 months of her life.
Here’s a few of the pages from her book so far.
One of my favorite things about Little Miss transitioning over to real food, is that I now have the opportunity to start cooking again. I’ve always enjoyed cooking but with Little Miss being on her own eating schedule I found it hard to find meals that were quick and healthy and also the time to actually cook it.
This is one of my favorite recipes, and it only takes about 9 minutes to make.
I purchase boneless skinless chicken tenders from Target, and pair it up with a frozen vegetable.
The night before I put in however many pieces of chicken I’m going to need into a ziplock baggie to defrost. About an hour before I’m ready to cook I pour in some olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder and let it marinate on the stove.
This is where my mini George Foreman grill, that I just had to have while I was pregnant, becomes my best friend in the kitchen. What I love about this grill is that it doesn’t dry out whatever I’m cooking. I throw about two to three pieces onto the grill for about four and a half minutes, it isn’t even necessary to flip over as it cooks both sides at the same time.
While my chicken is cooking, I throw a bag of steamable vegetables into the microwave. By the time my vegetables are done so is my chicken.
I told you, quick and easy. Of course its always more fun that I get to share with Little Miss now.
I don’t know when or how, but lately Little Miss has not been wanting to sleep in her crib at night. She has no problem napping in her crib during the day, but when it comes to bed time is like World War three in our house.
We didn’t start putting her in her crib until around four months old. Even as a newborn she slept in her Fisher Price rocker. We slowly started to transition her into her crib for naps, and eventually she grew out of her rocker and was fine sleeping in her crib.
For the past 2 months it is on so difficult to get her to sleep in her crib. At first we just thought it was because she was teething, then she had her first fever so she was sick for 2 days. Well now it’s going on almost 3 months and come bedtime it is such a long process to get her to sleep.
I’m not sure if it’s because I work mornings four days a week and she’s trying to get used to a new schedule, or if she is just going through a phase that I didn’t know is coming. I’ve tried to avoid co sleeping because I don’t want to get into that habit. Not saying it’s a bad habit because I know some parents are very much for co sleeping. I recently made a status on Facebook for suggestions on what we can do to help her sleep at night better alone in her crib. One of the suggestions was to put something in her crib that smells like us, a blanket a stuffed animal ect.
The past two nights I’ve allowed her to just fall asleep with me and then when A gets home he just put her in her crib and she usually stays asleep for the rest of the evening.
Has anybody else gone through this phase with their infant and have had success with anything they have tried? I just find it very odd that as a younger infant she was very much independent, and now being 9 months old she’s independent when it comes to play time and eating and doesn’t like to be cuddled, by when it’s bedtime she can’t be left alone.
Living close to Chicago has some wonderful perks with being about 30 minutes from the city. We have a lot of options on family activities.
Most months the museums and Aquarium offer free days for Illinois residents period for January and February the Shedd Aquarium offers discount days on Mondays and Tuesdays.
We had a family day to the shed aquarium yesterday with two of our good friends Little Miss was fascinated by fish tank after seeing one at the Bass Pro Shop when we saw Santa last month.
I hadn’t been to the aquarium since I was about 8 or 9 years old so going yesterday was like a first trip for myself.
Watching little Mrs eyes light up right before the huge fish fish tanks for the first time was awesome she was staring at a whole new world so many creatures, big small, pointy, and round. So many colors. Being able to even touch the glass and use her finger to follow the fish was the coolest thing I have ever seen.
If there was ever a time I wish I could know what her little brain was thinking it was definitely yesterday.
The only thing I will say that I didn’t like was the was only having access to the 1 floor, but being a free day I shouldn’t complain will definitely be back to see more of the exhibits especially the Penguins.
Pardon my mini break this past week. Getting back into a work schedule along with being mama was a little more difficult than I thought. Granted I’m only working 20 hours a week, it’s my first time working as a mom.
So this past Wednesday, Little Miss turned 9 months old! Seriously, we have a 9 month old. I’m planning her first birthday party already, can time just slow down a bit?
Little Miss has 5 teeth now, she pulls herself up on the table, super close to walking, and now eats real food! Her new favorites include pasta, and chicken with vegetables.
My gosh, I am jumping with excitement right now!
We just booked our hotel for our Disney trip this December! What a way to celebrate my birthday, and Little Miss’ first trip to see the Mouse himself!
This will be the 2nd time A and I have gone together since our honeymoon in 2014!
The wonderful thing about booking a Disney trip through the Disney World website is being able to just put a deposit down instead of paying all up front.
Like we did for our honeymoon, we’re purchasing our park tickets from our local Disney Store.
I’ll be blogging our planning and how we’re getting ready to take our baby to Disney for the first time as the months go on.
My gosh did Little Miss have an exciting morning! She had her first swimming lesson today! She has been in a pool before but it was more of me holding her and walking around in the shallow end.
I found a swim school right by our house that offers swim classes starting at 6 months old. There’s different levels as your child progresses and there is no membership fee like the Y has. You just pay per lesson.
Since we want her to be comfortable in the water, we just paid ahead for a full month. She goes once a week for a half hour. Perfect time for her to start to get used to the water and learn.
Today we worked on kicks, scoops and she even went underwater! I was to scared to do it so the instructor did it for me. We already can’t wait for the next lesson!
Happy 2016! I hope you all had a safe New Year’s Eve and are ready to make 2016 a great year!
Unfortunately, Little Miss had her first fever last night so we spent the evening cuddling and watching Doc Mcstuffins. But I wouldn’t have wanted to spend our night any other way. Minus her fever.
For it being the first time having a fever, seriously this was the first time since she was under the weather, she handled it pretty well. Lots of sleep and a few moans.
So last year on this day, it didn’t start off well. In fact, it was the worst morning ever. I refuse to focus on the hard time we had and concentrate on making this year even better. I made my January goals yesterday so I am ready to begin my year as my best yet.
My goals include myself, A and Little Miss.
This month we’re going to be planning Little Miss’ first birthday party, working on her first year scrapbook, ALOT of decluttering and organizing, going to the aquarium, me time, swim lessons for Little Miss, and my biggest goal for this month is no fast food.
Seems like a lot, but it’s all things I need to get done in order to make my year not as difficult or feel overwhelmed.
Little Miss is still under the weather today so we’re making it an easy day.
Did I mention I start my new job Monday??
Here’s to an awesome start to 2016!
