Fun in the Sun Day.

With A being gone still, that leaves only me to keep Little Miss entertained for the week. Which is fine since I’m home with her all the time, but with a break in between when A is home. Since it’s just us, we do spend more time playing at home and spreading our adventures out through the week.

Today since it was so much nicer out than yesterday, we had a full fun day outside and inside.

Starting with a little morning shopping, which resulted in purchasing a Minnie Mouse toddler quad. Makes sense to buy something that’ll take up room til we move, but I couldn’t not get it.

After Little Miss had her morning nap we went to the park for her very first picnic! She may not have understood what we were doing but she was so excited to eat outside on a blanket and touch the grass. And of course play in the park when  we were done eating.

It ended up getting a little hotter than I thought so we decided to go to the library, another first for her! Since she loves books and exploring it was the perfect afternoon stop for her. I was a little disappointed in all the iPad’s and video game systems they had available for kids. They did how ever have a huge play area that Little Miss went crazy for.

It’s the fun days like today that make me feel even more blessed that I’m able to have all the time with Little Miss and explore the world with her. It’s not even 4pm and I’m exhausted and ready for a nap, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Little Miss’ first Carnival

One of my favorite parts of summer is all the local carnival and fests. We couldn’t go to any last year since Little Miss was only 3 months old and it was way to hot for her.

Yesterday, we celebrated A’s birthday by going to a local fest. We thought we were smart at going after 6 because during the day it was way to hot, and unfortunately it was still ridiculously hot when we went.

Either way, the weather didn’t stop Little Miss from exploring and having fun on a new adventure.

image

From picking duckies to win a prize, a fun house and a few kiddie rides, she was exhausted after an hour. Which is actually a nice thing about having a toddler and knowing you won’t be able to go anywhere like that for too long of a time. And you know by the time you get home they’re going to pass out for the night.

One Pan Breakfast Casserole.

If there’s one thing I love more than a good recipe, it’s a spur of the moment idea that you hope would be a good recipe that comes out delicious. And that’s what I did for dinner.

I’ve been on a breakfast kick lately, unfortunately my French toast didn’t come out as planned. Who knew French toast would be hard to make?

And I had a dozen eggs that I need to use by next, a package of sausage links, a bag of frozen broccoli and a package of hashbrowns. Did I really want to make all of that? Yes. Did I want to make a mess and have a ton of dishes to do? No.

image

I improvised. Grease a pan, lay the hashbrowns in, scramble up some eggs with milk and pepper, add the broccoli and cover the top with sausage and the remaining hashbrowns if you pulled to many out of the freezer.

image

Cook at 350 for about an hour. Bam! One pan breakfast casserole. Even better when Little Miss enjoyed it and you have leftovers for breakfast tomorrow!

Father’s day Adventures.

Since A had to work on Father’s Day, we celebrated today by spending the afternoon downtown at the Field Museum.  Originally we were going to go to the Shedd Aquarium but that line was literally out the door and the Field Museum was just across the lawn with no lines.

I honestly don’t think I had ever been there before either, maybe for a field trip in grade school but I don’t remember. All I knew was they had the giant T-rex Sue there.

image

The Field Museum is a great place to spend an afternoon if you’re really interested in history and artifacts. Unfortunately Little Miss wasn’t and just ran past alot of the exhibits. They did have a fun children’s learning center where she was allowed to touch things and play with alot. She even touched a baby T-rex jaw with teeth!

image

The only downfall to spending afternoons in museums with a little one is you never know if they’re going to get cranky or tired, which Little Miss did after an hour. So to pay to get in, plus parking and even driving there adds up to less than 2 hours of trying to explore an entire museum. But that’s ok, because it was fun for all three of us and a way to celebrate Father’s day for A.

So Much Excitement, So Many Emotions.

If you aren’t friends with A and I personally, we are so happy and excited to say we officially have a home in Minnesota and will be making our big move at the end of September! We’ve been waiting to here about this for a little over a month and we finally have everything in order and can start packing and getting organized for a new start.

I’m not gonna lie, it’s pretty overwhelming. We’re moving from a two bedroom apartment to a 5 bedroom house. Do you know how much that is to decorate? I’m so excited for it though.

I had an entire day of excitement, and now my sadness is kicking it. Not just moving away from my parents, that’s a given. This is a whole new state, new place, new life. And I’m starting to realize how much we’ll miss out here. The holiday lights at the zoo and museum, not knowing exactly where everything is, our doctors, or dentist. Seriously, we’re leaving everything.

But that’s the whole point right? We have an amazing opportunity to give our daughter a wonderful life and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.

This couldn’t have happened at a better time, we have just enough time over the summer to have our summer adventures, take our time packing, and say goodbye to our family and friends.

4 Years of Pure Happiness in Marriage.

Today A and I are celebrating being married for 4 years, that’s almost a whole hand of being married! It definitely doesn’t seem like it’s been only 4 years
Sometimes it feels like we’ve been together forever, other times it seems like it was just last week we had our dream wedding with our family and friends.

image

The last couple of days, I’ve thought of how we’ve had complete happiness in our marriage. Some people think once you’re married everything changes and you no longer need to try or put effort into everything. Umm no. Just because you have a ring and said your vows, your relationship is really just beginning. You’re now two people as one. One of you has bed credit, both of you need to work on it together. One of you is dealing with a hard couple of days at work, both of you are handling it together. There is no “I” or “me” ,it’s “us” together.

Here’s a couple tips, personal experiences I’ve had in the last 4 years.

You have to be happy in order to have a happy marriage- don’t keep your worries or fears to yourself. Stressed about money? A work problem? Scared about life? Tell them, that’s why you married them isn’t it? That’s what they’re there for. For you to lean on. Keeping everything to yourself is just going to cause more stress and problems and it’ll be one big circle of u happiness.

Don’t allow money to be the cause of you’re problems. I seriously hate money with a passion. And it’s caused alot of unnecessary stress in our marriage. But again, that’s life and it’s up to you to decide how you let things effect you. Unfortunately, you can’t pay rent or bills with love, so naturally money is always a common stress factor. Just remember, you weren’t put on this Earth to pay bills and die. Go have fun, take that weekend getaway, let them spoil you once in a while and not worry about how much they did or didn’t spend. Guess what, if you’re late paying a bill, it’s ok. Just don’t let them get months behind..

Take care of yourself. By take care of yourself I mean get up and put on your favorite outfit, do your makeup, feel your best. How else are you going to make your spouse feel their best if you don’t feel your best?

And my favorite. Don’t say no. You can be creative with this one.

Happy 4 year wedding anniversary A, I love you mostest to infinity and beyond.

Rewards of Being Mama.

We were fortunate enough to have had this weekend to ourselves for the most part. A and I celebrated two of our good friends getting married, which meant it was a chance for us to have a date night. We haven’t had a date night for such a long time, and no better way than to celebrate to love of our friends and see some old friends.

image

Today, Little Miss spent the day with Nana and Papa while all of my cousins and I had a bbq and enjoyed a few games of beer pong and flippy cup. This mama has definitely lost her beer pong skills over the last two years.

Even though I missed our daughter both last night and today, and truthfully felt a little guilt, I knew I wasn’t being a bad mom. I have to remind myself I’m still a person and it’s ok to go out once in a while.

Back to my original topic. Watching Little Miss grow each day is so incredibly rewarding because I get to see life through a child’s point of view. One of the coolest things Little Miss has learned in the past week is being able to throw away her diaper. Yes, you know you’re a mom when something like that is exciting. Being able to hand her a diaper and say  ” Can you go throw this away in the garbage?” And she walks into the kitchen, puts the diaper in the garbage and comes back. It’s a pretty cool thing.

Each day I find Little Miss learning and understanding something new everyday and that alone is worth more than any paycheck.

Day of Fun at the Museum.

Little Miss and I spent the afternoon with a few friends at the Museum of Science and Industry today. It was the first time Little Miss has been, and the first time I had been there since I was pregnant with her.

The nice thing about going to a museum that has so much to do and touch and look at, is that Little Miss got to spend a majority of the day out of her stroller and run around and show her curiosity. Even though she didn’t understand where we were or what she was looking at, it was a new adventure for her. And we all know how much toddlers love new places.

I loved going to the Museum of Science and Industry as a kid, teenage and adult, which makes it even cooler to see my daughter get excited when she saw the baby chicks hatching, the Fairy Tale Castle, and even playing in the new children’s area. Which of course had a ton of water tables. Little Miss loves water so we of course we stayed in that section for most of our visit.

The Museum of Science and Industry is offering free days this summer for Illinois residents, so make sure you check out their website for those dates. It’s also worth going even if it’s not a free day. Spend your day there and check out everything they have to offer. We didn’t see all of the museum today, but we’ll be going back before we move to Minnesota.

This was a perfect way to spend a rainy/gloomy afternoon. I always appreciate those kinds of summer days, especially when tomorrow is supposed to be 92 degrees and hot. We’ll be spending our Friday at the pool tomorrow.

Toddler Free Afternoon.

All mom’s should know and understand the importance of making sure you get some “me time ” and get a break once in awhile. With how much A has been gone lately, I’ve been non-stop with Little Miss. It really makes me appreciate even more the short amount of time A is here to allow me to have those breaks.
image

For some reason, this has been the hardest week with Little Miss. Whether it’s teething, she is full of more energy I never thought possible in a little person, or I’m just running out of energy, she has been non-stop for me. And I finally cracked. I honestly couldn’t see myself getting to Tuesday without breaking down.

Thankfully, my parents offered to take Little Miss for the afternoon to give me a break. I’m telling you a 6 hour break to do whatever I want was exactly what I needed. I never realized how much I missed driving with my windows down and listening to music as loud as I want. Or shopping for myself and not having to put everything Little Miss grabs from the racks back.

Having a husband working two states away but still understanding when I need a break is something I’m incredibly thankful for. He works harder than anyone I know and still makes it a point to tell me I’m the one who works hard to be a good mom. Having two parents who clear their day to have Little Miss over and throw her toys everywhere is even more wonderful because I get those much needed breaks.

I’ll never ever complain that I don’t get to go out as much as I normally would like to. Hell, I’m exhausted by the time Little Miss is going to bed. I’d rather spend an entire day out and about with her than passing her off to a sitter and going out everyweekend.

But once in a while, I’m totally ok with shopping by myself.
